Introducing artificial intelligence in school education

Artificial Intelligence in Education

The Trump administration has prepared a draft executive order titled “Promoting Artificial Intelligence Education for American Youth,” aiming to integrate AI into K–12 education. The initiative seeks to ensure U.S. technological leadership by equipping students with AI skills.

The draft order proposes establishing a White House-led working group, headed by the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, including the Secretaries of Education, Labor, Energy, and Agriculture, along with a special advisor on AI and cryptocurrencies. This group would coordinate efforts to implement AI in education.

Under the proposal, the Department of Education would prioritize federal grants for teacher training in AI integration, while the Department of Labor would develop AI-related apprenticeship programs. The order also encourages partnerships among schools, industry, and nonprofits to promote AI literacy and critical thinking.

Additionally, a “Presidential AI Challenge” is planned to engage students and educators in AI-focused projects.

However, the initiative may face challenges due to reduced funding and staffing in federal agencies, potentially hindering its implementation.

The executive order is expected to be signed in the coming weeks, marking a significant step toward modernizing the U.S. education system to meet future technological demands.
